About the author

Hi, I’m Elaine and I am writing this blog so that I can share some of what I have learned through working with carers over the last almost 10 years. Previous to that I had worked in the NHS all my life, initially as a physiotherapist and then in the field of leadership and team working. When I left the NHS in 2008, I worked in the public and private sector and with charities. Gradually I worked more and more with people dealing with challenging situations in their lives – young homeless people, people struggling with alcohol and drugs and then carers. For around the last 5 years I have worked almost entirely with carers and have undertaken three projects to study and evaluate the use of one to one coaching to enable carers to stay healthy while caring for someone. The reports of these projects are available on my website – www.pensando.co.uk

My blog will draw on the work I have done with carers and my own experience of caring for my mum for around 10 years. My work on leadership has also influenced heavily my work with carers.  I have tried to help all the people I work with to develop a mindset of self-belief and confidence whether they are managers, leaders, carers or young homeless people. My aim is always to enable them to make conscious decisions and to become leaders in their own lives.

I aim to write something every couple of weeks so if you like what I write about please take a look every now and then and also tell others who you think might be interested.

Looking forward to writing for you all and hearing what you think.

Elaine
